2023 Foundation Challenge Results

In 2014, the ACFE began challenging chapters to donate to the ACFE Foundation in our annual Chapter Foundation Challenge. At that time, it would have been difficult to predict how successful the challenge would be over the next 10 years and how important our chapters would become to the Foundation. With the overwhelming support of our chapters, the Foundation has been able to increase the number of scholarships awarded and increase the total scholarship amount from $55,000 to $85,000.

Since 2016, ACFE chapters have continued to surpass the previous year’s donation amount (all but 2020). We are proud to say that ACFE chapters achieved this goal again. In 2023, on the tenth anniversary of the Chapter Foundation Challenge, ACFE chapters donated another record-breaking $139,105! This exceeded last year’s record by more than $10,000.

The ACFE and the ACFE Foundation thank all the chapter leaders and chapter members who support this important cause that will provide valuable educational opportunities for students and researchers with an interest in fraud examination.

Since the Chapter Foundation Challenge began, ACFE chapters have raised nearly $710,000. As you can see from the totals in the following figure, aside from 2020, chapter donations have continued to increase since 2015.

Nearly 80 chapters have participated in the Chapter Foundation Challenge at one time or another. We are lucky to have chapters that donate regularly and are happy to welcome new chapters that joined the challenge for the first time. Of the 37 chapters that participated in 2023, 28 chapters donated the previous year. We also had four chapters that donated for the first time.

In 2019, the ACFE Foundation expanded its scope by merging with the ACFE Research Institute (ARI). The ARI works with academics and practitioners to support research studies on the prevention of fraud and corruption. It provides both funding and data to aid research studies that benefit Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs) and the anti-fraud profession.
