Chapter Profile - Hong Kong Chapter #96

The ACFE Hong Kong Chapter, the first ACFE chapter in Asia, just celebrated its 20th anniversary. While chapter leadership has changed over the years, the chapter has consistently found board members who have a passion for increasing fraud awareness and devoting their time providing opportunities to the local membership.

The Hong Kong Chapter Board is comprised of 13 members and one part-time executive assistant. Each of these volunteers stays extremely busy since they serve more than 1,000 local members. The Hong Kong Chapter does not charge a membership fee, however, they do require the individual to be an ACFE member in order to join the chapter.

The membership in Hong Kong is made up of more than 600 CFEs and nearly 400 associate members. With so many members in the area, the chapter offers many types of training opportunities members can take advantage of. They offer two CPE hour training events each quarter, two “Investigations” events worth 12 CPE each and an ethics training event worth an additional 2 CPE. They pride themselves in being able to offer enough CPEs for CFE members to maintain their CPE compliance.

Offering Different Types of Training

The Hong Kong Chapter organized a sold-out Ethical Decision Making Workshop in May 2019. Due to the immense popularity of this event, they decided to organize it a second time in October 2019 and it sold out a second time as well.

They offer a two-part Fraud Investigation Training. The foundation course was held in June and the advanced course was held in October. Both of these events are extremely popular and consistently receive positive evaluations. The chapter partners with the Center for Criminology at the University of Hong Kong.

Happy Anniversary

The chapter celebrated their 20th anniversary by organizing the 20th Anniversary Conference cum Annual Dinner, titled, “Looking Back, Moving Forward – Future of Fraud Examination.” This event was very well-attended and gained support from key regulatory and law enforcement agencies. The positive feedback from members and supporting organizations was overwhelming.

Greatest Achievement

They were instrumental in helping ACFE membership in Hong Kong grow from a just few hundred to now more than one thousand members. In 2019, the number of new members that have joined in Hong Kong doubled the number that joined in 2018.
